Well I did it! Not only that but my 28 year-old son only beat me by 25 Minutes. 4 hours 10 minutes. Not bad for a 53 year-old who hasn't run a race since 1987.
However now it gets serious... On April 10th 2005 Ben and I will be racing in the Paris Marathon. Not just against the 35,000 runners but against each other. I am 25 years older, and so we have a very complicated spread bet running on the difference between my time and his. Obviously Ben is going to beat me.
It goes like this: If the spread is less than 30 minutes, Ben owes me two bottles of beer. If it's more than 45 minutes, I owe him a bottle. Then there's the additional bottle for every 3 minutes difference outside those two figures. 27 mins makes 3 bottles to Dad, 48 mins means 2 to Ben. And so on. It seemed like a good idea at the time!
I am also running for a very well worth-while charity. Whizz-Kidz who provide specialist aids for children with mobility problems. If you would like to donate I would be very pleased.
